‘Everyone in This Room Will Someday Be Dead’

Recommend? Yes!

Read if you like: Eimear McBride, Sally Rooney, Jessie Cave

The blurb begins like this:

Gilda, a twenty-something lesbian, cannot stop ruminating about death.

Gilda and I have a lot in common. I didn’t know what to expect from this book, but it exceeded anything I could’ve thought. The story is thoughtful, honest, revealing, and chock-full of cheeky, often dark, humor.

Emily Austin’s depictions of anxiety and depression were vivid and real and she does a beautiful job putting you inside of Gilda’s head. Her characterization of her relationships with others, like her brother, Eli, and her (almost) girlfriend, Eleanor.

This book was heartbreaking and I loved every step. A little sad, a little funny, and a little mysterious. I’ll be reading this until the end of time.
